House Renovation Project | Part 4 | Denham Springs, LA

So much is happening! We have paint!! And boy, does it make a difference! I feel like this house is FINALLY starting to come together, y’all. We decided to paint most of the cypress trim. We considered sanding and restaining it, but it likely would not have turned the color we wanted. We did keep the natural beams in the kitchen, though.

We have ordered tile, floors, and plumbing fixtures. They should be coming in sometime in the next week or two, and our granite will be installed later this week. I am currently shopping for lighting fixtures, which happens to be a lot of fun! Yay for pretty things!

The best moments of my life so far are -without question- the births of my four children. There is no way to prepare you enough for the euphoric sensation of delivering a baby and the sweet, blissful moments that follow. Seeing their little face, hearing their first cry, feeling the warmth of their skin on your chest for the first time…these are the things that I want to remember forever.

This is a view of my very last delivery from my perspective. It was four days ago, but the emotions I feel in this moment are forever preserved in these photographs. THIS is why I am a photographer. THIS is why I love it so much. Being able to capture these feelings, so we can relive these moments over and over again, is something I will never take for granted. I’m thankful to my wonderful OB/GYN, Dr. Allyson Boudreaux of Louisiana Women’s Healthcare, for allowing this incredible event to happen, and for taking such good care of us during pregnancy and delivery.

After a smooth delivery, I spent the next two days soaking in some quiet time with my new daughter. With three littles at home, I knew our quiet bonding times would be few and far between, so we sat together, snuggled a lot, and slept in peace. It was all wonderful.

House Renovation Project | Part 2 | Denham Springs, LA

I was finally able to get a few photos of the exterior, and we’re making progress on the interior, too! We have already started trimming some of this wild landscaping, but a LOT of work needs to be done in that department! We have several trees that need some TLC or cut down completely. Let me know if you have any recommendations in that department! Most of the other stuff we plan to do ourselves.

We have already replaced all of the windows on the front, so what you see here is new. Our fireplaces and sheetrock will be going in on Tuesday of next week!

This is our kitchen. The bricks are being stripped and will be refinished with a tinted sealant. I can’t wait to see how this turns out!

The Castillo Twins | Family Mini Session | Baton Rouge, LA

I first met these sweet girls on a twins playdate last year when we got them together with my twin girls! I was thrilled when their mommy asked me to take some photos of them–their first ever real, professional photo session! The golden light, their spirit, their fun daddy–everything was perfect! I loved, LOVED seeing them and their silly personalities. These shots are some of my favorites to date.

So, we bought a fixer-upper! After looking at houses for over two years, we finally decided to get this gem of a home, that is perfectly situated right in the town my husband and I grew up in. We are excited to be close to our helping hands (our dear mothers), and have our children attend the same schools that we did. Mostly, we are excited to have MORE SPACE! Coming from a three-bedroom garden home, we are thrilled to have large bedrooms and plenty of space to stretch out! And I can’t leave out the amazing VIEW we are going to have! One of my snobby requirements for our new house (which I was completely willing to sacrifice if I needed to) was to have a nice sunset view. This house will give us really gorgeous sunsets over a lake. I’m pretty pumped about it!!

The renovation was initially projected to be completed in early January, but it’s actually looking like December might be our move-in month! I’m doing everything I can to get these guys ROLLING because our baby girl will be here at the end of November! The sooner we can get into this thing, the less stressed out Mama will be. 🙂

I’ve snapped a few BEFORE photos just in case anyone wants to follow along on our journey. It’s quite the mess. I haven’t been able to get a good photo of the front of the house just yet because there are always a ton of trucks in the driveway! But you’ll see that soon. For now, this is what I’ve got!

The Russum Family | Fall Mini Session | Baton Rouge, LA

One of my favorite things is seeing my newborn babies come back to me six months, one year, two years, etc. after their first session. I’ve said this time after time, but I really do enjoy seeing these sweet babies grow and change…and also seeing how their families evolve. The hectic moments, the smiles, the laughter, the love—these are the things that make my heart warm, and remind me why I do what I do. Giving these families a little snapshot in time to freeze these moments that become lasting memories to hang on their walls and show their heirs is a feeling of joy that I’ll never take for granted.

Thank you Summer, Jeremiah, Hayes and Skylar for another beautiful session.

Sweet Maxwell is turning THREE, and this girl does it in style! This blondie is bright, funny, and has a HUGE heart for animals! She particularly loves snuggling with her pup, Cooper, and kitty, Rasta!

This was our third session together, and it happens to be one of my favorites! I love this family!

Every year I donate a photo session to the Annual CureSMA Singer-Songwriter night silent auction. It’s a wonderful evening with good food, lots of prizes, and great entertainment. But best of all, it raises a ton of contributions to support life-changing research and provide a care center for those affected by this disease.

Just this year, Spinal Muscular Atrophy has been added to routine newborn screening tests, which will completely change the lives of those affected. On December 23, 2016, the FDA announced that it had approved Spinraza, a treatment developed by Biogen and Ionis, making it the first-ever approved therapy for SMA. Cure SMA provided the very first research funding for this program beginning in 2003. The FDA has recently approved a second drug therapy, Zolgensma.

This research program is making strides to cure this disease for good.

Kent donated towards this session as a gift to Kaci. She and her daughter, Kynzi, have never had a professional photo shoot before, so you can imagine how excited this mama was! Better keep him around, Kaci! He seems like a really nice guy! 😉
